Castle Stalker

Castle Stalker

Appin PA38 4BL, United Kingdom

Castle Stalker is a four-story tower house or keep picturesquely set on a tidal islet on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe.

The original castle was a small fort, built around 1320 by Clan MacDougall who were then Lords of Lorn. Around 1388 the Stewarts took over the Lordship of Lorn, and it is believed that they built the castle in its present form around the 1440s.

The castle is now privately owned but there are a limited number of tours each year – these can be arranged by prior appointment. You are taken to the castle by a boat that has 12 seats and you have to be able to get in and out of the boat yourself.
