Loevestein Castle is a medieval castle in the municipality of Zaltbommel, Gelderland, the Netherlands. The castle was built by the knight Dirc Loef van Horne between 1357 and 1397.
The rich history of Slot Loevestein spans about 650 years and can be divided into three periods: the Middle Ages, the state prison and the Dutch Waterline. The most striking event in the history of the castle is undoubtedly the special escape of Hugo de Groot.
