Onward to Canada at Fort Ticonderoga

Onward to Canada at Fort Ticonderoga

New York, US

As part of America’s 250th anniversary commemorations, Fort Ticonderoga presents Onward to Canada, a groundbreaking living history experience. This immersive, multi-day reenactment recreates the moment in 1775 when the Northern Continental Army launched its expedition from Ticonderoga toward Canada.

Over the course of the weekend, visitors will witness Connecticut and New York troops encamping together for the first time, hauling supplies by wagon and oxen, drilling as a unified army, and preparing reproduction wooden vessels for embarkation. Muskets fire, cannon roar, and rations cook as history unfolds in real time.

The event begins with a special prelude on Friday, when reenactors camp at Hague, New York, then row down Lake George at dawn. On Saturday, they march through the village of Ticonderoga and assemble at the fort. On Sunday, the army practices massed firing and embarks onto Lake Champlain aboard reproduction bateaux—recreating the opening of the American invasion of Canada.

Throughout the weekend, Fort Ticonderoga offers a full program of tours, demonstrations, performances, and family-friendly activities, making this one of the most ambitious Revolutionary War reenactments of the America250 period.
